Gerrymandering at the Supreme Court

On Demand
The deliberate drawing of electoral districts for partisan advantage that we often call gerrymandering is not new, but the emergence of large voter datasets manipulated by powerful computer mapping technologies has increased the effectiveness of gerrymandering as a technique for parties in power to maximize their seats & political voice, while minimizing their opponents’ seats & chances of turning the political tables. With the 2020 census & a subsequent round of redistricting looming, this session will examine several recent Supreme Court cases that have declined to intervene, allowing our political geography to be reshaped by partisans to advantage some & disadvantage others in our electoral processes.
